(1939-2024)
Barbara Goodall was called back to God on 14th July 2024 after a short illness. She will be sorely missed by her daughter, Tracey, and all who knew her.
Barbara was a woman of dignity, patience and unwavering faith. Even in life's most difficult moments, she trusted in our Lord to protect and guide her through. As she often said, "God's plans for you are better than any plans you have for yourself".
Reflecting on Barbara's life with God, we are reminded of Mother Teresa's words: "Faith in action is love – and love in action is service. By transforming that faith into living acts of love, we put ourselves in contact with God himself; with Jesus our Lord."
Barbara lived her faith through acts of charity and kindness. After her retirement in 1999, she dedicated much of her free time to volunteer work – first, with the Samaritans and, subsequently, her local homeless shelter. And, as her fellow worshippers will attest, she was always ready to offer prayers and succour to those in need.
Most will remember Barbara as a quiet and humble soul. But her morals were steadfast – and she had a tenacious streak that will be familiar to those whose lives she touched most deeply.
Barbara would not tolerate injustice. She would be the first to speak up if she felt circumstances were unfair – and she would do anything to protect her family from harm or upset.
Though they may be gone for now, they will never be forgotten.
Mum, I miss you deeply
I can't believe you're gone
But you won't truly leave me
Your memory lives on
It lives on in the flower
That grows upon your lawn
And every April shower
And every summer dawn
It lives on through the call
Of robins, wrens and sparrows
The crops that feed us all
And every field that fallows
But most of all, you'll live on
Within our hearts so tender
You're never truly gone
So long as we remember
